MOBILE, AL (WALA) – General Manager of the New York Football Giants Jerry Reese along with Dwayne Joseph, the director of pro scouting for the Philadelphia Eagles, renowned sports agent Bus Cook and custom designer Clarence Jones of CJ Custom Clothiers all spoke to student-athletes at Williamson High School Tuesday morning about the importance of education and staying on the right path in life.
Reese, a native of Tiptonville, Tenn., told the students he grew up a lot like them; in a small town, “but as long as you get your education, you can go places.”
“It’s important for me to come out here and spend a little time with them and let them know that you can be from a small town and as long as you get a good education, you can go places,” Reese said. “For me to come from the tiny town I come from, Tiptonville, Tenn. in northwest Tenn.; to be the General Manager of the New York Football Giants; that’s a long way from there.”
Under Reese’s leadership the Giants have won two Super Bowl Championships.
Naming Ben McAdoo as the franchise’s 17th head coach back in January, Reese said the former offensive coordinator was the perfect choice to replace the legendary Tom Coughlin.
“The great Tom Coughlin was our head coach for 12 years; Ben has been our offensive coordinator for the past couple of years so he and Eli have a great relationship. We expect that to continue to grow,” Reese said. “The offense Eli has been in; he’s been really productive. We have to get some other players around him on offense, defense and special teams. We expect Ben to pick up where Tom left off and carry us to the places we want to go and that’s to another championship.
For Cook, who represents athletes such as quarterback Cam Newton, linebacker T.J. Yeldon and retired NFL quarterback Brett Farve, getting to the next level in life is all about hard work and education.
All four men are in town for the 2016 Reese Senior Bowl football game.
